Toyota Junior Golf World Cup supported by JAL Tees off Wednesday

Sweden, Norwayfs Kristiansen return to defend titles

TOYOTA CITY, Japan - Teams from sixteen countries have converged on Toyota City, Japan, in attempts to accomplish what Sweden did a year ago - win the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup supported by JAL. Joining Sweden in the 2008 field are Argentina, Australia, Colombia, Denmark, England, Guatemala, India, Japan, Kenya, Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, South Africa and the United States.

For the fourth-consecutive year, the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup will be held at the Chukyo Golf Club Ishino Course.

The 2008 field boasts many players ranked in world-wide publications. The highest of which are Koreafs Kim Bi-O, defending-individual champion Anders Kristiansen of Norway, USAfs Bud Cauley, Peter Spearman-Burn of New Zealand, South Africafs Dylan Frittelli as well as Matthew Haines and Eddie Pepperell of England.

Nine teams from the 2007 field - Sweden (first), Norway (second), Australia (third), South Africa (fifth), New Zealand (sixth), Japan (T-seventh), USA (T-seventh), Mexico (ninth) and Argentina (11th) - return in 2008.

Armando Zarlenga of Argentina won the tournamentfs long drive contest for the second-consecutive year Monday. He did so with a drive of 314 yards, outdistancing his closest competitor - South Africafs JG Claassen - by 6 yards.

Round one tees off at 8 AM Wednesday with round four concluding Saturday.
