I would like to express my great pleasure on the occasion of the opening of “Toyota Junior Golf World Cup 2008 Supported by JAL.”

First, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the supporters and volunteers who have made the 17th edition of this tournament possible with their extraordinary effort and involvement.

This tournament has grown to attain the stature of a truly international and renowned event that assembles elite young players who qualify for the finals after having battled through preliminary rounds held across six continents. It is with utmost pleasure that I welcome the 16 qualified national teams to Aichi Prefecture.

I believe that the purpose of this tournament is to not only foster competition among young players of the future but also promote international goodwill by strengthening exchanges among participants from around the world.

As in the past, the venue for this year’s edition is Ishino Course at Chukyo Golf Club ― a course that is well balanced in terms of difficulty and natural beauty. With this wonderful course as the venue, I expect this tournament to produce some exciting games, with the finale providing a fitting climax.

Last, but not the least, I wish all the players the best swing for the championship.
